Customer Review: A vise that not only grips

but it grips wherever you want it to! It comes with a separate base, (more can be purchased...)that you attach to your workbench or any other suitable place, like an outside shed or your table saw. There is supposed to be a mount that lets you clamp it to the edge of your workbench without drilling any holes but I haven't seen one or found it in any of the stores I looked in. The thing about this vise that isn't very apparent without using it, is that you slide the jaws by hand until your work is pressed between the clamping surface, the rubber covers are easily removable. Then you turn the handle until it's tight. When your turning the knob, the jaws will close down a little bit more until everything is as tight as you need it to be. The knob does not continue to turn or move the jaws the more you turn it, in fact the knob doesn't really move the jaws more than maybe a 1/2 inch. The knob only turns for one rotation or so. It is only used to clamp down your work after you've placed it where you want it to be and pulled the jaws together to hold the work, they don't back up at that point.They say the vise has 1/4 ton of clamping power, but who really knows? For the money I couldn't find a better vise. The size of the jaws & the width of the opening are all excellent. To acquire something as comparable, spec wise, you will spend a lot more money. It would be a lot heaver also! It is rugged and seems very durable. I expect it to last as long as the other clamps & gripping devices I have from the same manufacturer.
